Hadith on Charity: The Prophet commands charity for all people

Ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to order charity only for the people of Islam, until this verse was revealed, “It is not your duty to guide them, for Allah guides whom he wills,” (2:272). Thereafter, the Prophet ordered charity for everyone who asked from every religion.

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَأْمُرُ بِأَلا يُصَّدَّقَ إِلا عَلَى أَهْلِ الإِسْلامِ حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ هُدَاهُمْ إِلَى آخِرِهَا فَأَمَرَ بِالصَّدَقَةِ بَعْدَهَا عَلَى كُلِّ مَنْ سَأَلَكَ مِنْ كُلِّ دِينٍ
