Hadith on Words: People stumble with their tongues more than their feet

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, the servant may say a word for no reason other than to make people around him laugh, yet by it he plunges farther than the distance between the heaven and earth. Verily, a man stumbles with his tongue worse than he stumbles with his two feet.

Grade: Hasan (fair) according to Ibn Hajar

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَيَقُولُ الْكَلِمَةَ لا يَقُولُهَا إِلا لِيُضْحِكَ بِهَا أَهْلَ الْمَجْلِسِ يَهْوِي بِهَا أَبَعْدَ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَزِلُّ عَلَى لِسَانِهِ أَشَدَّ مَا يَزِلُّ عَلَى قَدَمَيْهِ
