Hadith on Pardon: Conceal legal offenses from punishment if possible

October 5, 2016

Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Keep away from these ugly deeds that Allah has prohibited. Whoever falls into them should cover himself with the covering of Allah the Exalted.”

Ash-Shafi’ee, may Allah have mercy on him, said, “In the time of the Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, commanded a man who committed a legal offense (ḥadd) to conceal his deed. Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, commanded the same.”
